Musicians Joan Sweeney (ex- Remember Remember, The Royal We ) and Hillary Van Scoy (ex Divorce) met while collaborating on a Day of the Dead performance event with Glasgow School of Art students Scott Caruth and Claudia Nova. Sculpting papier-mache skulls to a soundtrack of Malaria! And Kleenex, the conversation turned to the idea of forming a band of their own.
Their musical pallette draws comparisons to the melodic inventions of early post-punk and the primitive attack of ’60s garage rock, raw and rhythmic with claws and teeth bared. Motown girl-group harmonies are plundered and twisted in new, unsettling directions.
Like some primal howl from the depths of Norma Desmond’s cobwebbed mansion, Aggi Doom are Glasgow’s last vestige of voodoo glamour. As Marianne Faithful scaled the pyramids of Giza under Kenneth Anger’s watchful, witchful influence, powers were set loose and have brought many to their knees. Through this supernatural wreckage Aggi Doom come crawling. Their music will bewitch you and, against all your best intentions, you will soon all be disciples of their unholy church.
