This is the sound of being young, punk, smart, poor, lazy and talented. The sound of a band at the early stages of the typical new act cycle: make songs, record them, release them, go on tour, repeat until burnout. I'm pretty sure that's a Sharpie they’ve used on the album cover too.
Led by vocalist Amber Gempton (she of the high-pitched but tuneful vocal delivery), Golden Staph are leading the pack of a burgeoning Perth scene, with bands like Taco Leg, Mental Powers, Astral Travel gaining more exposure and attention on the east coast and beyond.
Sitting on the fringes of punk rock, post punk and new wave, Golden Staph pepper their songs with a frenetic and jittery energy. Loose wiry, treble-heavy guitars are flung around necks and cool organ-sounding synth lines steal the show on songs such as 'Sweaty Search' and 'Yung Lung'. Meanwhile Gempton's at times casual, the next panicked delivery keeps things moving at a fast pace. - Mess And Noise Blog.
